Roland DeWilde -- Sculptor, Stone Carver
Canadian artist Roland de Wilde was born in Vancouver and raised near the Chilliwack River Valley. The beauty of this area inspired Roland to begin working with art at a young age and contributed to his love of nature.
After high school Roland traveled extensively and experimented with different media and art forms. However it wasn't until a few years ago when a piece of B.C. rock was given to him that Roland found his true metier--stone sculpture.

DeWilde's sculptures depict people, animals and the natural elements in a free form style that suggests the integration of the physical world. They also intimate that we are diminished whenever the environment or a species is irretrievably lost. Enamored of the natural beauty of the West Coast, Roland decided to make Sechelt his home in 2005.

This sensuous abstract, inspired by a shark bone, will look like it is cruising on your desk. Notice that the piece can be enjoyed from many different angles, each aspect suggesting something different.
Diving Otter by Roland de Wilde maximizes the "flow" of the mineral deposits in the stone to suggest a carefree dive by a river otter, one with the flow of the water.
