Kicking Horse Tea Room

by Max Jacquiard

From a popular viewpoint alongside the Trans Canada highway one can see trains entering and exiting Field hill's Lower spiral tunnel in the lower slopes of Mount Ogden.  For thirty years prior to the building of the Trans Canada highway through this area in the 1950s, this Tea Room on the former gravel road offered a superb view of steam powered trains climbing and descending the hill.  The triple headed train approaching the lower tunnel entrance will re-emerge from the higher portal, move out of the right side of the picture, then cross the scene from right to left beyond and below the building before meeting and crossing the road a few hundred feet to the left.
